What the Scribe subscription buys that stepkeep does not

A subscription is fair when there is something running for you every month. Scribe runs a cloud workspace: your guides are stored there, your team opens them with a link, and its AI features write text for them. That costs Scribe money every month, and the price passes it on.

stepkeep has nothing running. The recording, the editing, the blur and the export all happen in your browser, and the guides stay in your own browser profile. Nothing is uploaded, so there is no storage to bill for and no seat to count. The licence key is checked inside your browser, and every update is included.

That is also why the team price is flat. Scribe's Pro Team starts at five seats, so a team of three pays for five. stepkeep Team is 149 EUR once for every employee and contractor of one company, whether that is three people or thirty.

Moving from Scribe before the next renewal

  1. Export while you still pay

    Scribe's PDF, HTML and Markdown exports are on its Pro plans. Export the guides you want to keep before your seat runs out.

  2. Record your most used guides again

    stepkeep cannot import a Scribe guide. Recording one takes about as long as doing the task once, and the step sentences are written for you.

  3. Hand it out as a file

    Put your logo on it, then export a PDF, a single HTML file or Markdown for your wiki. Anyone can open it without an account.

Is Scribe free?

Scribe Basic is free. Its pricing page lists PDF, HTML and Markdown export, desktop capture and unlimited guide creation on the paid plans only, so a free guide stays inside Scribe.

Why does Scribe Pro Team cost at least 65 USD a month?

Pro Team starts at five seats. Five seats at 13 USD is 65 USD a month billed yearly, 780 USD a year. Month to month, five seats at 17 USD is 85 USD. A team of three pays for five either way.

Does stepkeep have a subscription?

No. Personal is 59 EUR once and Team is 149 EUR once, both including VAT. Every update is included, and the licence key is checked inside your browser, so nothing expires and no update can switch it off.

Who does the 149 EUR Team licence cover?

Every employee and contractor of one company, with no seat count. It adds a brand file one person exports for the others to import, and priority support.
